2024 Pittsburgh – NCAA Tradition

March 2024

Day 1

Nine hours of driving with plenty of snow.

Day 2

ch Started the day with lunch at Max Allegheny Tavern and some fine German food.

PPG turned out to be a pretty nice arena and our seats were great, luckily we were not in the 200’s.

Day of upsets, 3 out of 4 games were upsets including the 14 seed upset of 3 seed Kentucky!

Day 3

After starting at the wrong incline, we made it to Duquesne Incline Inside

Day 4

Cathedral of Learning at Pitt University.

The old Forbes Field Wall on the Pitt Campus, thanks to the Hokas, Dave had a 6″ vertical.

Day 5

Memorable Moments

This is the second time we have chosen Pittsburgh as our location. We could not get tickets for the first time in 2012 and went to our second choice, Portland, Oregon. Ticketmaster appeared to be withholding tickets to increase demand because a few months after tickets went on sale and were sold out, they magically appeared again on Ticketmaster’s website.

In a reenactment of the subclass incident at Congaree National Park in Columbia, Leo managed to swat Cochefski’s glasses out of an inside pocket of Dave’s coat onto the floor at PNC arena. Luckily due to their new carpeting, the glasses were OK. However, he had to retrieve his glass case and sunglasses about 6 feet apart.

A sampling of the Irish Potato pastry similar to Almond Joy. And of course the eating of the green cheese, which was not planned, it just so happened that the cheese that Leo brought was on its way out.

Dave runs into Jack Gohlke, the star of Oakland who slays Kentucky. The debate was whether or not he showered after the game, and Dave did not issue a smell test.

Three upsets on the first day, and two overtime games on the second day, one of them was a double overtime where the Creighton Bluejays knocked off the Oregon Ducks.
