March 2023

Day 1

A visit to the State Capitol
A view from the inside
The governor was not available, but Senator Lisa Cutter from the Foothills (Jefferson County) was.
Colorado Senate Chambers
Our digs this year in Thorton with 4 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.
Guard and Grace, listed as one of the top ten steakhouses in the nation.
Obligatory hotel lobby shot (not our hotel, we have a house)

Day 2

Breakfast at the Mercantile Exchange educating Doug’s friends on the tradition (they all went to the game too).
Ball Arena in Denver
View from the seats, we were high, but the view was still good.
Drinks and dinner at the Thirsty Lion
Watching FDU upset Perdue on the big screen during our game, which was not as close.
A mass of humanity left the stadium, everyone went for one exit.
Where the day began and ended – Union Station

Day 3

Cog rail train for Pike’s Peak, this railway has been running for 130 years.
We took the bus from Manitou there and then walked back to the car after returning to beat the free bus.

At the summit of the highest the NCAA Tradition has ever been, 14,115 ft above sea level with a vertical climb of 7800 feet.
the other Dave missed this historic picture to stand in line for donuts
One extra shot from the top.
Second stop, Garden of the Gods.
A shot for our next album cover.
Last view of Garden of the Gods at sunset.
Finally a brewery for the last stop of the day.

Day 4

The most viewed man-made object in Colorado, the Air Force Academy Chapel, was undergoing a major renovation until 2027, so all we saw was a big box.
The honor court at the Airforce Academy.
The first A10 Warhog to shoot down an enemy aircraft in air-to-air combat. The aircraft shot down was an Iraqi helocopter during the Gulf War.
Watching the UConn game during our games. Wireless and cell service have come a long way in modern arenas.

Day 5

A quick trip to Red Rocks Amphitheater. Roughly 388 steps from parking to the top and some of us handled that better than others.

Memorable Moments

Chol and Leo almost got into the wrong car after a brief stop at Walgreens. Both opened the door and noticed the stench of cigarettes from someone else’s car.

The other Dave also felt the necessity to back the car into every spot. This sometimes added significant time to our parking experience as Dave tried to line up the car with our parking spaces.

Leo selected the most inexpensive garage in the city one night and then learned why. Not only was it falling apart, but it was inhabited by several interesting characters enjoying Colorado’s Marijuana legalization.

Chol must have tied his shoes at least 10 times a day, and the rest of the time he was walking around with his shoes untied (actual photo from our Cog Railway ride to Pikes Peak.
Must have been the shoes.
